Fashion forecast: patterned with a chance of fur

Good Morning Dear Reader:

Yes, we will be wearing fur this season!

Yes, we will be wearing fur this season!

I know how desperately you have longed to hear the fashion forecast for fall. After hours of research and innumerable cans of Cherry Coke Zero, I am happy to pass on my report to you. The good news is that much of what you have in your closet from last fall and winter will still be in style. The bad news is that if you don’t sew, you may want to dig out that glue gun, there is some updating to be done if you are to remain on fashion’s cutting edge.

The hottest additions to winter wardrobes will be fur, feathers and fringe. We are not talking about one little mink collar, a peacock feather headband and the fringed leather pouch you carried to a college  fraternity mixer.

The latest issue of Bazaar, June/July sums up the hot looks for this season:

1. Camel and Gray–tailored clothing, belted, even a bit preppy

2. The New Bohemian–floral dresses, loose silky pants, statement jewelry, fur accents, and of course, boots

Great statement jewelry from Dillards, $30-38

3. Opulence–Think metallic, mosaic patterns, fur, feathers and fringe

4. 90’s Minimalism–menswear inspired suits, lots of black, sophisticated accessories

5. Cozy Chic--This does not refer to snugglies. It is fur in every configuration, including patchwork, with most being faux.

6. Great Outdoors–Worn leather, bulky knits, shearling, and wool.

The really good news is that this fall, fashion appears to have great latitude and that the purchase of some inexpensive, but chic wardrobe accents, like vests, handbags and even trim to add to existing jackets, skirts or boots, can instantly update your look.

Leggings are back in solids and prints. The animal printed ones will be especially hot in leopard, zebra, and strong graphic designs, especially black and white. These will soon be appearing in your favorite discount stores like TJMaxx, Marshalls, Target, H&M.com, Walmart and of course at Prontostyle.com., where I found a great buy on leopard and zebra leggings (gray and black stripes, much more flattering than black and white for us girls with real legs) from Nordstrom’s. They have been reduced form $22 to $13 a pair. Don’t wait, they’ll go fast.

For great boots, be sure to check the special sales at 6pm.com. Their daily deals on shoes, handbags, and clothing for men, women and children can save you as much as 75%.  Endless.com also offers discounts up to 60% on shoes and bags. Don’t pay retail if you don’t have to. Let your fingers do the surfing. The bargains are out there.

Please share your great finds on the Web or in stores with Lipstick Digest!

Have a great day!

Diane
